BIOGRAPHY

Monika Cicolella explores the different connections and interconnections that we can establish as an individual with the world that surrounds us.

Taking advantage of her rich academic background and her extensive travelling as well as her very intimate relationship with all forms of expression coming from Nature, she transforms the energy and the emotions that she has gathered into aesthetic and poetic artworks that invite everyone to think about their own connections.

Monika Cicolella conceives her artworks as a source of energy and emotions that can be perceptible by everyone, whatever their origins and culture.

Monika Cicolella was influenced very early on by the dreams of the Polish linguist Zamenhof, the creator of Esperanto. Speaking herself five languages, she considers Art and Nature as two universal languages that everyone can understand without any translation. This is why she very often uses trees in her work as a universal vector of energy and emotions: beyond her special relationship to trees, trees’ patterns and symbols are present in most cultures across the globe. Indeed, in order to stay connected to Nature, Monika Cicolella uses as much as possible in her art practice materials and tools of natural origin such as ink, paper, wood, charcoal, ceramic and natural pigments.

Through her different series, Monika Cicolella shows the richness of her own connections so that they resonate with the viewer's own connections.

Monika Cicolella was born in 1977 in Poland. She studied in parallel political sciences, economy and history of Art, following an academic path that led her from Warsaw to Luzern, Berlin, Paris and London. In 2012, while living in Shanghai, she decided to devote herself entirely to her passion for Art. Her works have been exhibited since 2013 in several individual and collective exhibitions in Shanghai. She now lives and works in Lyon, France.
